Bio: Jolien Robijns obtained her master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Hasselt University, Belgium, in 2014. In October 2018, she graduated as a Doctor in Biomedical Sciences at Hasselt University under Prof. Dr. Jeroen Mebis, Head of the Medical Oncology department (Jessa Hospital, Hasselt, BE). Her research focuses on the use of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) in supportive cancer care. The main topic of her Ph.D. project was the application of PBMT for the prevention and management of acute radiodermatitis in cancer patients. She now further investigates the beneficial effects of PBMT in an oncologic setting for other indications as a postdoctoral researcher. Since November 2019, the research group under Prof. Mebis has set up the Limburg Oncologic Laser Institute (LOwLIght). The ultimate goal of LOwLIght is to perform more PBM research, enhance the implementation of PBM in clinical practice, and share PBM knowledge. Jolien presented her research at several (inter)national conferences in the field of oncology and PBMT. She received several prizes for her research, which has gained attention in the Belgian media. Dr. Robijns is also a member of the Belgian Laser Group, WALT, ASLMS, and MASCC.
